Acoustic Detection I

The technical progress and development open new working fields for bioacoustic research. Since 2000 we checked the capabilities of bioacoustic methods for the practical use of acoustic for the detection of life activities of different weevil and beetles in different life cycle stages
The main focus was set to wood destroying beetles and weevils in living and dead wood. But also we made research studies on weevils which infest grains of wheat. The economical damages which could be caused by these pests is very high.
The success of practical field introduction depend strongly on the collected base data of each species and the typical enviroment in which they live. The right balance of all informations lead the researcher to a detection system with highest accuracy.

Up to now fundamental data of the following species are proofed and available:

Rhynchophorus ferrugineus (Red Palm Weevil, Picudo rojo, Roter Palmenrüsselkäfer)
Hylotrupes bajulus
Calandra granaria
Jebuses hammerschmidti (Stem Borer)
Oryctes elegans (Fruit Stalk Borer)
